about this site
Hi, I'm Bryan Bibat and I'm a
freelance software engineer
based in Taguig City, Philippines. I have 5 years of experience in
developing software, mainly web applications.
This is my mini-portfolio website. Here you can browse
what little work I could claim as my own (long story, just click the
link for a short explanation). You could also check what services
I offer.
I guess you have some time on your hands since you're still reading
this. In that case, you might want to head over to the bio section
to know more about me. If you really have a lot of time on
your hands, why not head over to my blog and read about the geeky
stuff I'm into.
services
I offer the following services:
Web Development
(X)HTML & CSS
JavaScript
J2EE (Struts/Spring/Hibernate)
Ruby on Rails
PHP
Systems Analysis and Design
Requirements Analysis
Database Design
Application Architecture
Teaching and Tutorials
Basic and Intermediate Computer Science subjects
Software Engineering
Programming in the languages listed above, as well as C/C++, Python, VB.NET, and C#.
I do not offer the following services:
Web Design - this website would've been much prettier if I was a designer.
Logo and Artwork - I'm a software engineer, not a graphic artist.
PSD to HTML - let's just say I'm using GIMP instead of Photoshop.
Thesis Writing - do your own job, kid.
Any job that requires me to be on site more than 20 hours a week, with one exception:
The job I'll take over any other job offers:
An internship for software engineering management consulting in a
company that uses people-centric management practices e.g. agile,
lean, etc. I would love to go for a management consulting career
path, but unfortunately I never got to manage more than 3 people
in my previous job. As for my current level of management knowledge,
please refer to my management blog posts.
For inquiries, you can contact me at my e-mail address
bry@bryanbibat.net.
As a web developer, I could code a simple contact form and embed
it here. But I'm bored, so here's a
Wufoo contact form instead.
my works
While I may have worked with a bunch of platforms (and almost
all major commercial databases) in my previous work, I can't
put them here because of these three letters:
NDA.
Given that all of my major projects for the HK SARG,
I chose not to include them in my portfolio rather than risk
having Jackie Chan or Jet Li-type policemen barge in my house and
take me away somewhere.
Anyway, here is my portfolio, a short list of stuff I made post-Azeus:
web applications
Warehouse Inventory and Invoicing
In production
I assisted a friend in the development of this web application
which was for his friend's sales and distribution company in Naga
City. It's a pretty straightforward app with basic features like
user roles and workflows.
Ruby on Rails
mySQL
a bit of jQuery
Online Organization Roster
Proposal submitted, pending beta testing
My university organization is almost 10 years old now and as an
alumnus I'm having trouble keeping up with the new members being
added to the org every year. I made this prototype program to give
the current members a starting point in case they would agree
to my proposal of having an online roster.
Plurk is a microblogging site that focuses on conversations
instead of Twitter's shout-to-the-world approach. It also has a
"Karma" system that rewards or penalizes users based on the number
of posts they made per day, thus prompting me to make this
application that automates posting.
Nah, who am I kidding? I just made this app when I realized that
I don't have a web app in this portfolio that is open to the public.
Robot that adds simple flashcard gadgets to their waves. The gadgets are
multiplayer-friendly so you could compete with your friends.
Custom flashcard decks can be created at the app website.

bio
I'm a software engineer by trade (i.e. my money came from years of
being a corporate drone) but now I'm on a hiatus, spending my time
playing online games doing research for my blog and
taking occassional freelance jobs.
Aside from Software Engineering and anime culture, I'm also into computers
(anything from hardware to games), fitness, singing, and precision sports.
My bookshelf mainly contains manga, some computer science and software
engineering books, and some management books.
My contact details are at the end of the services section above.
